To watch K-dramas legally, use the streaming service that holds the rights in your country. For most international viewers that's one of Netflix, Disney+ (Hulu in the US), Prime Video, Rakuten Viki, KOCOWA+ or Viu. No single service has everything. The quickest way to find any show is to search its English title on a free availability tracker like JustWatch, then confirm in the app.

The six main legal services for K-dramas are Netflix, Disney+ (Hulu in the US), Prime Video, Rakuten Viki, KOCOWA+ and Viu. Netflix has the widest reach, KOCOWA+ is fastest for KBS, MBC and SBS shows in the Americas, and Viu covers Asia, the Middle East and parts of Africa.

Service What it's best for Typical K-drama mix Regions (broad)
Netflix Big-budget originals and some weekly tvN/SBS/JTBC dramas Netflix originals (global) and licensed TV dramas (vary by country) Nearly worldwide
Disney+ (Hulu in the US) Disney+ Korean originals and selected ENA/MBC titles Originals like The Remarried Empress; some broadcast dramas Most Disney+ markets
Prime Video A growing slate of JTBC, tvN and SBS weekly dramas e.g. Love in Disguise, Final Table, Nine to Six (outside Korea) Most countries
Rakuten Viki Broad catalogue, fan-made subtitles in many languages KBS, MBC and smaller-channel dramas, variety shows Americas, Europe, others (catalogue varies)
KOCOWA+ Fast subtitled broadcasts of KBS, MBC and SBS shows Dramas, variety and music shows Mainly the Americas
Viu Asia, Middle East and Africa Many tvN, SBS and TVING titles Asia, MENA, parts of Africa

Service catalogues and regional coverage change often. Check the provider's own site for what's available where you live.

Why the same drama ends up on different services

Korean dramas come in two kinds:

  1. Streamer originals (Squid Game, Tantara, The Remarried Empress). These are made for one service, which usually releases them worldwide at once. Easy to find.
  2. Broadcast dramas made for tvN, SBS, KBS, MBC, JTBC, ENA and others. The channel or its distributor sells overseas rights territory by territory, and that's where the confusion starts.

Two November 2026 examples show how messy this gets:

Drama In Korea Most other countries
Nine to Six (SBS) Netflix Korea Prime Video
Good Partner 2 (SBS) Netflix Korea Viki or Viu, depending on region

So "it's on Netflix" can be true and useless at the same time. Every show in our November 2026 schedule lists the platform for overseas viewers.

How to find where any K-drama is streaming

  1. Search the English title on an availability tracker (JustWatch or similar) and set it to your country.
  2. Try alternate titles. Korean shows often have several English names (Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia vs. Doctor X: Mafia in White; Sacred Jewel vs. God's Beads). If one fails, try another, or try the Korean title.
  3. Check the broadcaster's announcement. Korean outlets and Soompi usually name the international partner in premiere-date articles.
  4. Check the platform's "coming soon" section, since dramas sometimes land a few days after the Korean broadcast.
  5. Still nothing? The show may not be licensed where you live yet. Licensing often follows later, especially after a show becomes a hit.

What it costs (roughly)

We don't list prices because they change often and differ by country. In general:

  • Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video are general-entertainment subscriptions. If you already pay for one, start there.
  • Viki has a free, ad-supported tier in many regions, plus paid tiers for the full catalogue and ad-free viewing.
  • KOCOWA+ and Viu are dedicated Asian-content services. Viu has free, ad-supported viewing in some markets.

If you watch a lot of K-dramas, one general streamer plus one specialist service (Viki or KOCOWA+ in the Americas and Europe, Viu in Asia) covers most of what airs.

  • Official YouTube channels of KBS, MBC, SBS, tvN and JTBC post clips and highlights, and occasionally full older episodes.
  • Viki's free tier, where available.
  • Library services in some countries (for example Hoopla or Kanopy in the US) carry selected Korean titles. Check what your library card unlocks.

What to avoid

Unlicensed "free drama" sites and apps are the main alternative people find, and they cause real problems:

  • Malware and scam ads. These sites are a common way to spread malicious downloads and fake "update your player" pop-ups.
  • No money reaches the people who made the show. Overseas licensing revenue is part of why Korean studios can afford ambitious productions. International sales help decide which dramas get made.
  • Worse quality. Rushed machine subtitles, missing episodes, dead links.

A VPN pointed at another country usually breaks the platform's terms of service, and most services block VPN traffic anyway. Using the service licensed where you live is simpler.

FAQ

Is there a free legal way to watch K-dramas?

Yes, in some regions. Viki offers a selection with ads, and many broadcasters post clips and some full episodes on their official YouTube channels. Free catalogues are smaller and vary by country.

Why is a show on Netflix in Korea but not in my country?

Korean broadcasters sell streaming rights region by region. A drama can be on Netflix in Korea while Prime Video, Viki or Viu holds the rights elsewhere (Nine to Six and Good Partner 2 are current examples).

Is using a VPN to watch K-dramas legal?

It usually breaks the streaming service's terms of use even where it isn't a crime, and services actively block VPNs. We recommend using the service that is licensed where you live.
