Possible Love, Lee Chang-dong's first film in eight years, arrives on Netflix worldwide on November 6, 2026, according to Netflix's announcement. It's a feature film, not a drama series, so there's no weekly schedule: the whole film goes up at once. It stars Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong, and it opened in Korean cinemas on September 23 before coming to streaming.

Cast and story

Netflix's synopsis follows two married couples. One is a laid-off worker and his wife. The other is a documentary filmmaker and her husband. They are brought together when the filmmaker sets out to film the first couple, and both marriages end up facing their different lives and hidden desires.

Variety reported it as Lee's first feature since Burning (2018). Netflix bills Possible Love as one of the biggest ensembles of Korean talent to appear together in one film.

Festivals and the Oscar race

  • Venice and Toronto. Netflix and Screen Daily both say the film was selected for the Official Competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. Netflix also lists the Special Presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, and Screen Daily reported it was set for its North American premiere there.
  • Oscar entry. The Korean Film Council chose Possible Love as South Korea's submission for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards, according to Cineplay. Screen Daily also reports the submission. Cineplay reported that the shortlist is expected late this year, with the ceremony next March.

Some outlets have reported festival prizes for the film. K24N hasn't confirmed them with two reputable sources, so we've left them out.

Should you watch it at home or in a cinema?

Lee Chang-dong's films are slow-burning and full of detail, and they reward your full attention. If it's still playing near you, the cinema is the better first viewing. On Netflix, it works best watched in one sitting without a phone in hand. It isn't a background watch.
